The 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Season Celebration
This year's AMA Motocross Banquet & Season Celebration was held in a magnificent banquet room at the Pala Resort & Casino. The room was decorated beautifully, lined with motocross dcor, as well as a stage decorated with the championship bikes and awards. The line-up of food, appetizers, desserts, and beverages was very elegant and delicious.
After dinner, the awards ceremony began. Jason Weigandt, along with Tim Cotter hosted the show. And of course Jason started it just like he does many of his shows - after slamming down an energy drink.
Jason went on to talk about each round of this summer's AMA Motocross Nationals, with a list of funny jokes pertaining to all the good and bad situations at each of the races. After that, the awards and trophies were handed out.
The night was filled with special memories, good times, and laughs. One poignant moment was when Kevin Windham accepted the award for 'Sportsperson of the Year'. Kevin always has a great way of expressing himself, but made a great comment towards his friend & the team manager, Mike LaRocco. He commented on Mike's motivation, that pushed Kevin to work hard and do his best ... it was touching, but at the same time very funny.

Flashback: Anaheim 1 Supercross 2009
The opening round of AMA/ FIM Supercross 2009 was Anaheim 1. Remember who won? Do you remember that Josh Grant won the premiere Supercross Class? Andrew Short was second, Chad Reed third, Ryan Villopoto fourth. And Jake Weimer won the 250 West Regional Supercross?
You'll have to read what happened to James Stewart in the race ... although James would go on to win his second AMA Supercross Series title at the end of the 2009 Supercross season in Las Vegas.

Josh Grant wins his first ever 450 class US supercross race on the Gibbs Racing Yamaha Team! Chad Reed and James Stewart had a tangle on lap nine, which ultimately lead to Stewart having to pull out of the race, with Reed recovering enough to finish third. Jake Weimer wins the 250 Main Event in his first race for Pro Circuit Kawasaki! Below are photos from the event, and an interview after the win with Josh Grant.
Josh Grant talks about his win
Press the play button below:
12:30pm: Practice starts. Track is very nice and tacky. It's partly cloudy, partly sunny.
1:32pm: The 'fast' 250 rider come out for practice, with Jake Weimer number 19 for Pro Circuit Kawasaki leading the charge. It's also the reappearance of Jason Lawrence, the 250 West Coast Supercross Champ! Riding with the number 1 plate. He's on a team with Monster as a sponsor, along with Boost Mobile, AM/PM, and others.
Ricky Carmichael, winningest rider ever in AMA motocross/supercross history, is in the 'industry seating' area, checking out the action. Top guys include in the 250 Lites class include East Coast Champion Trey Canard #39, Ryan Dungey #10, Lawrence, and Weimer. Dungey and Lawrence had the fastest laps in practice.
1:54pm: The top 450 riders come out for practice. Surprise, surprise - James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed have the best lap times, right around one minute. Nick Wey, number 27, seems to be on the same team as Jason Lawrence, riding a black motorcycle with Monster branding, along with Boost Mobile and AM/PM.
4pm: It starts to rain, although very lightly.
7:30pm: The top four riders (Chad Reed, James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto, and Kevin Windham are introduced. And it's like a four-man boxing match stare off. : )
7:38pm: First moto of the season goes off, and it's Ryan Morais, #116 with the holeshot! Ryan Dungey falls on the first lap! Dungey is off to the side of the track, looking down at his bike - can't get it restarted. Now he's pusing it back to the pits.
7:42pm: Jake Weimer, Morais' team-mate on Pro Circuit Kawasaki, takes over first place. The checkered flag has Weimer first, Morais second, and Justin Brayton third.
7:50pm: 250 heat 2 blasts off. It's Daniel Reardon 122 and East Coast Supercross Champion Trey Canard 39 up front. Jason Lawrence 1 is in fourth. At the end of the second lap, its Canard, Lawrence, and Reardon top three. On lap four, Lawrence puts a move on Canard, and into first he goes. Half lap later, Canard falls in a right hand corner. At the finish it's Lawrence, Reardon, Canard.
8:03pm: The 450 heat 1 blasts off! Ryan Villopoto 2 out front and stylin'! Supercross Champion Chad Reed went off the course a bit in turn three ... the top three after three laps - Villopoto already way out front, Ferry second, then Steve Boniface, Andrew Short, and Mike Alessi. At the checkered, it's Villopoto, Ferry a ways back in second, Andrew Short, and Chad Reed.
8:18pm: 450 heat number 2 takes off. And up front ... it's number 7 James Stewart! Josh Grant 33 second, Davi Millsaps 18 third, with Robert Kiniry fourth. As the checkered flag falls after eight laps, it's James Stewart with the victory! Josh Grant second, Davi Millsaps third, and Robert Kiniry fourth.
8:32pm: 250 Last Chance. Dungey wins.
9:27pm: 250 West 15 lap Main Event start! Daniel Reardon with the holeshot! Jason Lawrence down! On the third lap, Jake Weimer pushes past Reardon and into the lead. Dungey is ninth, Lawrence is 13th.
9:43pm: Jake Weimer takes the 250 West Main Event win! Followed by team-mate Ryan Morais 116, Ryan Dungey, Jason Lawrence, and Chris Blose. Eastern Supercross Champion Trey Canard finished 14th.
9:57pm: 450 20 lap Main Event start! James Stewart with the holeshot! Josh Grant second, Chad Reed third. At the end of the first lap, it's shaping up as the battle royale - Stewart out front, Reedy right behind in second! At the end of lap two, in a right hand corner, Reedy goes inside of James to take the lead! Reed leading, with Stewart right behind, and they are way ahead of all the others. Grant is running third, Windham fourth, Villopoto eighth. On lap seven, Stewart squeezes by Reed and back into the lead on a left hand corner. Then, they collide as Reed's front tire touches Stewart's rear tire, and they go down together! Reed gets up first, another rider knocks into James (Kevin Windham), and James cannot start his bike! James is now walking off the track ... done nine laps into the first race of 2009. Bummer. The leader - Josh Grant! Andrew Short is second, Reed is third, followed by Ferry. On the final lap, as Josh Grant appears headed for his first ever 450 Supercross victory, he's got banners stuck in his rear wheel - causing a lot of smoke from the rear end of the bike! But Josh Grant wins! Andrew Short is second, Chad Reed third. Villopoto scores a fifth, Windham 15th, and Stewart officially 19th.

RJ Says: State of Supercross
As the West Region ends for a while, and East region gets ready to start up ... In 250 West Supercross 2010, Jake Weimer and Trey Canard are showing a lot of confidence right now. I'm very impressed with both of these racers right now. This past race at Anaheim was a good example for both of them.
Series points leader Jake Weimer has a great heat race with a win, even after that heat was red-flagged. Jake had some trouble in the Main Event, but showed his smarts by charging hard the full 15 laps, coming up to eighth at the finish ... that could literally save his season and potentially the championship title.
Trey had some problems in his heat, but came back very strong in the final - he won the 250 Main in Anaheim. That shows a lot of maturity from him as a rider.

RJ Says: Moving to Pro 4 Off-Road Truck Racing in 2011

Last year I won the TORC Pro 2 Off-Road Truck racing championship. This year I'm moving to the Pro 4 class.
What's the difference between Pro 2 and Pro 4? Pro 2 is two wheel drive. Pro 4 is four wheel drive.
With Pro 4 you can drive more aggressively - you can get on the gas more, because you have much more traction with all four wheels.
Also in 2011, I'm with a new team - Menzies. Plus I have help from Dodge, and Red Bull.

RJ Says: Give me a break in between supercross and motocross
Is the combined supercross / motocross season of today's era too long?
As a former supercross and motocross racer, I don't think the season is too long. Racers want to race.
But I would like to see a couple of changes that I think will make it better for the riders, teams, and most importantly, the fans.
First, I'd like to see a much longer break in between the end of the Supercross season, and the start of the MX season.
I think it would be great if the riders could have at least a couple off weekends off after the supercross season ends. One of the reasons is they could do more 'outdoor' testing at that time, instead of during supercross season.

American Suzuki's Plans for the 2012 Supercross and Motocross Seasons Announced
American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) has announced plans today for the upcoming 2012 AMA Supercross and Motocross seasons. Suzuki has been a dominant force in both series? for over seven years and has been a leader in technology in order to maintain that stronghold with the continued development of the Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450. Since its introduction, the RM-Z450 has amassed the most AMA Motocross Championships as well as the most motocross race wins of any four-stroke 450. The RM-Z was also the first four-stroke AMA Supercross Championship 450 and the first fuel-injected 450 to win AMA Supercross and Motocross titles.
Current plans for the 2012 campaign include returning Suzuki rider, Brett Metcalfe. The 27-year-old Australian joined Suzuki at the beginning of the 2011 season with solid credentials and has demonstrated strength, determination and the ability to win aboard the Suzuki RM-Z. Although injuries shortened his 2011 supercross season, Metcalfe has shown his ability during the current motocross season, scoring an overall win as well as two podiums and 3 top five finishes. Metcalfe finished the season a solid fourth in points in the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross series.

The Superbowl XLIV champions, the New Orleans Saints, have many fans - among them is none other than the number 14 in Supercross, Kevin Windham. While the NFL season started when Supercross was in its off season, Kevin was able to take part in season tickets to his favorite NFL team - da' Saints. Eventually the 2010 Supercross season got underway in January, which meant Kevin was flying off after those Saturday night Main Events back East to watch the New Orleans Saints Playoff games.
On February 7, 2010 the New Orleans Saints headed to the Superbowl in Miami, Florida and Kevin Windham and his wife Dottie made arrangements to attend this momentous occasion. First, however Kevin had to finish up a Supercross race in San Diego the night before.

Red Bull Teka KTM factory motocross rider Steffi Laier "Ready to Race" in 2011
When Steffi Laier, Red Bull Teka KTM factory rider and two-time Women's MX World Champion takes to the track in the pre-season MX races in Valence, France, this weekend it will be her first competitive ride for 2011. Steffi has been training hard on the bike since mid December and in Valence tests herself against a field of male riders.

At the French pre-season special, she faces off with a strong lineup of riders including those from the Nestaan JM Racing KTM squad led by Joel Roelants, Yentel Martens and young talents like 125 European champion Jordi Tixier of France and Austrian Pascal Rauchenecker. Also in the field are other KTM riders like British rider Nathan Parker (PROPPA-COM KTM and French riders Loïc Leonce (B G R KTM) and Loïc Larrieu (WOLFF KTM). But these and other top riders hold no fear for Steffi who his very well known for her toughness, skill and courage when attacking any MX track.

AMA National Motocross Preview - Delmont PA - Round 11
It's called Steel City. It's in Delmont, Pennsylvania. And it's going to host the second to last round of the 2011 AMA National Motocross Championship Series - round 11.
Two names are standing out, as they are going to battle for the premiere Motocross class championship, most likely until the final moto next weekend at Pala Raceway MX in California. Who knows how fierce the competition will be between those two names - Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey? They are separated by only eight points, with four 'motos' left to go.
Right after the race in Pala, they will head to France to compete as teammates, along with Blake Baggett and Team Manager Roger De Coster, as Team USA at the Motocross of Nations in St. Jean d'Angely, France, September 17 and 18. (Watch that entire weekend's event online here.)
Ryan Villopoto is currently leading the AMA National Motocross series in the " MX " class. Ryan Villopoto has won two regional Supercross titles, three AMA National Motocross Championships in the 250 MX Lites class, and recently won the 2011 AMA Supercross Series Championship.
Ryan Dungey is the defending (2010) AMA Motocross Champion. Ryan won the 2010 AMA Supercross Series Championship. Ryan won the 2009 AMA West Region Supercross title, and was the 2009 AMA National Motocross Champion in the 250 MX Lites class.
This should be an epic battle.
Saturday - Round 11 in Pennsylvania. Next Saturday, finale Round 12 in California. The following weekend, teammates in France for the prestigious MX of Nations.
Let's review last weekend's race in Southwick, Massachusetts to get you all caught up for Delmont. And we have three articles for your review. (Metcalfe gets first overall AMA MX win, Swanepoel wins a 250 moto, Barcia win a 450 moto, Dungey drama, Villopoto retains points lead, Rattray commanding in 250 MX Lites, Wilson retains points lead in 250 MX Lites.
